10 Ways to protect your information in public PC

1.     PC Setup: Don’t install any software’s in public PC’s, normally it should not allow you. Installing software’s by entering your personal information and the key which you bought makes you to lose your authentication.
2.     Keyloggers: Either physical or any key logger software would do a better job. Data’s are stolen in the way that we enter details thru our keyboard only. So encryption of key would help in preventing your data’s.
3.     Avoid Certain Tasks: Unless until it’s emergency don’t login for Banking/shopping activities.
4.     Clear Cache: Always clear cache when you are about to exit from any browser.
5.     Delete Files: If you download any documents for editing or copying, make sure you Shift+Delete the file before you exit.
6.     Empty Trash/Recycle Bin: This is self explanatory.
7.     Use Flash Drives Carefully: If you save your files to a flash drive, be careful because you may end up giving all of your files on the drive to a would-be thief. The thief may have loaded software on the public computer to grab any files on a drive that is inserted into the computer. Clever thief may also have software installed to transmit virus to your flash drive.
8.     Uncheck Save Info Options: Avoid “Stay Signed in” Options for any email account login.
9.     Watch for Prying Eyes: Don’t think that you are not followed thru camera. Thief’s can have hidden camera’s hence use your body as a shield if you must type in personal information at a public PC.
10.                        Trust you’re Instincts: If you feel like public PC’s request for your personal information, stop giving it. Your profile may be stored for any spam purpose. If at any time you feel uncomfortable sharing information, don’t hesitate to leave so you don’t risk giving away your private information.

Removing Duplicate Rows in xls 2007

Today I feel like giving a tip. Today’s Tip is how to remove duplicate rows in Microsoft excel 2007.
Let’s take an example I have the below name and address
Name
Address
John
143 washington blvd
Smith
150 tonne ave
Sergio
34 van reipen ave
Smith
45 summit ave

In the above table there is two Smit. Now click on DataàRemove duplicates

Now you will be prompted to select columns for removing duplicate entries. (We should select name as we are going to remove the name alone)

Once you click ok, your data will look as below.

Name
Address
John
143 washington blvd
Smith
150 tonne ave
Sergio
34 van reipen ave

Now consider the below data.
First Name
Last Name
Address
William
John
143 washington blvd
Robert
Smith
150 tonne ave
Isper
Sergio
34 van reipen ave
Jing
Smith
45 summit ave
Robert
Smith
22 winkle ave

Here Smith is repeated three times where as Robert smith is repeated only two times. Now you should be caution in removing duplicates. You should select only first name to remove, incase if you select last name column to remove duplicate 3 Smith data will be removed (2 Robert Smith and 1 Jing Smith).

Though this is a cool feature, but see the address column, in the above example Robert smith is present in different address, they will be removed as the name is same. So this feature should be used wherever it’s applicable.

Block programs executed by others

Dear All,

Yesterday my friend called me and said "Hi Abbu, i would like to block some applications in my PC so that it should not be executed by anyone else, do you have any idea?"

Guess my reply!!!

mmmm, i said "buddy, there should be some option which i m not sure let me give a try".  Then after i started my investigation which stopped me here.

A software named "Lockup", it manages the execution of applications in your computer. If you dont want some application to be executed by others in your PC (may be ur brother/sister/wife/friends) then this application would be a one stop solution for it.

Note: Make sure you have selected "Only the list below" else all the application including windows will be locked! :(

Open the application click on browse add the application whichever you want to block it. Now when someone tries to open then the user will get the below message

How to grand access to file for 1 day or for other time limit?

When you use some common PC @ home/office we will be in a position to share a folder or file to our friends or with colleagues.  After they use it we will forget to unshared, Ops!!! Human memory is not CPU J still we are humans.
Today let us see how to share a file or folder for 1 day or for some few hrs to others.

Yes, with no doubt this is freeware!!!

SecureShare is a freeware which allows you to add a password and expiration date to your files you would want to share to your friends or others, people can only view your files by entering the password you assigned before the expiration password arrives, Moreover your files cannot be copied, printed, saved, forwarded or printed. Mmmm….. You will love this when you start using it.

How to block access to websites in your own PC?

Dear readers,

You can’t stop thanking me if I tell you this tip!
This scenario may happen to everyone. I am having my notebook in my home and my parents/relatives/friends any one can access my PC. But I may think of blocking some websites to be accessed by others thru my PC. There are lot of parent control software’s available but still we shall see how we can do this by our own.
For Eg., I would like to block youtube.com from my PC.
1.     Goto C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc or C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc
2.     Open “hosts” file in notepad.
3.     At the end of that file you should be seeing
“127.0.0.1       localhost”.
4.     Now add
127.0.0.2 www.youtube.com and

127.0.0.3 www.anywebsitename.com
5.     Once you are done, reboot your PC. Now you won’t be able to access youtube or any other site name that you have specified.

Two Program Files Folders in my Windows folder!

Dear Readers,

Have you ever wondered why does windows folder has Program Files & Program Files (x86)? Mmmm, I know now you should have recalled why you don’t think thisJ.

Whatever it may be, let’s see why we have these two folders.
The first folder (Program files) is the default location for all of your 64-bit programs. It does not have an extra label at the end because as a 64-bit operating system, it is assumed that you will have only 64-bit applications installed on your computer.
The second folder labeled Program Files (x86) is the default location for all of your 32-bit applications. To be clearer, it is a folder designed for legacy software that is left over from the days of 32-bit operating systems.
Hope it’s clear now, It’s not that much easy for all the software and hardware company to switch from 32-bit to 64-bit as Microsoft doesL. They need to consider many parameters.
By the time all the software and hardware company reaches 64-bit, who knows Microsoft may release 128-bit architecture with one folder (Program files, Program files x86, Program files xx86) J

Meet you again!
