Creating Custom Ring Tone in iTunes

Dear All,

As my friend sastry keeps requesting to post on how to create custom ring tone using iTunes, let's have this topic for today.

  • Open iTunes
  • Go to File --> Add file to library (Ctrl+O) to add your favorite song. In case if you have added already you can skip this step.
  • Right click on the song and click on "Create AAC Version" (this is iTunes compact format). This step will create an AAC version of the song which you have selected. It will take 10-30 seconds to create.

  • Once it's created click on "Recently Added" button under Playlist option at your left panel. Now you should be seeing the AAC version of the song as shown below.

  • Now right click on the song and select AAC version (Right click on the song so that you can see the below information to confirm it's AAC)

  • Once you confirm this is AAC version then right click on that song or from the above window select "Options". As customs ringtone cannot be >30 seconds give the start and end time as per your wish then click on OK.

  • Now Play that song, it would play only that 30 seconds. Upon confirmation again right click on that song then select "Create AAC Version".
  • Once the AAC version is created when you notice on the duration of that song it would be 30 seconds. Now goto the path where this song is available. Rename that song from .m4a to m4r. If the file extension is hidden click here to see how to make it visible.
  • You can now either drag and drop the song into Ringtones or else you can add from File menu under Ringtones option. In case if you don't see any ringtones in your left pannel as shown below, you need to goto Edit-->Preferences (Ctrl+,) and under General tab Check the Ringtones option.

  • Connect your phone and make sure when synchronization this songs are selected under Ringtone Tab.
